we left for dinner at Victoria and Albert's, a once in a lifetime dining experience

To celebrate Megan's upcoming graduation and everything she's been through this past year, we made reservations at Victoria and Albert's for a special evening. And special it was! Although she wanted to do this, on the way there last night she did request that we stop at McDonald's afterwards, because she wouldn't be full (thinking she wouldn't find anything she liked on the menu). How wrong she was! We indulged in seven amazing courses of everything from salmon foam soup to quail eggs with caviar to spiced Colorado buffalo and elk tenderloin to Calamarata pasta with vegetable ratatouille.

Both she and Evan tried (and usually finished) everything ordered. What fun to taste so many amazing flavors expertly combined in a place with such impeccable service! And yes, she liked almost everything she tried! The only "yuk" of the night was from David and Evan when they tried the Colston Bassett Stilton in their cheese course...Evan could best describe it as what "trash water" would taste like. The look on his face when he realized there was nothing he could do but swallow it, was priceless! Yes, it was a very formal setting, but not at all stuffy and our servers, Allen and Rado, made it fun for all, especially Megan and Evan. Part of the fun was when we would decide to trade plates halfway through a course and the servers would be tableside in seconds with the appropriate silverware for the new person trying the dish! We kept them hopping! By the end of the evening when coffee was served (in a table-top brewing contraption only Mort could appreciate...we were thinking French Press, but no, this was much more complicated) and we were worn out from eating and laughing, we realized that special memories were made last night!

Greetings from the Sunshine State! It is Monday morning and a steady drizzle has been coming down since about 7:00 a.m. Tutu, David, and I are sitting on our screened-in patio having coffee and Nutty Bars (well, not David). Let's hope the rain stops before the kids wake up!

this is for all you spring breakers -- just to show you what is in the water. Barb hooked up with some sharks and this one must be a juvenile by the looks of the lip jewlery. Have Tim and Cythinia down this week and getting ready for more. Been out scouting for fish for the next trip. awaiting the call to pick Mom up at the airport.

So it's all not policy drudgery here at the UofC. Sometimes we get to go on field trips! Monday my Analysing and Communicating Policy class went to the local NPR affiliate (WBEZ) and taped interviews with one of their hosts on some policy proposals we put together as a capstone project. They'll never air -- it was just for fun -- but it was really cool to hang out in the studios, meet some of the hosts and then go to dinner at our professor's house.

Culture in (and Around) Paoli

Wow! Things must be slow (or maybe incredibly busy) out there for the Foster family...not many posts lately. After weeks of famine - culturally, that is, I've had the opportunity to attend two amazing performances in the last 24 hours. Last night I got to see Ladysmith Black Mambazo ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J85QrbR5oUE) at the IU Auditorium...a very unique evening of music and no, David, did not go...not really his "thing." Today our Throop students were treated to a concert by the 113th Army Band Jazz Combo from Fort Knox...totally different and equally wonderful. I feel renewed!

We've been talking about summer plans here in our household, and wondered if anyone was up for a Foster Family mini-vacation...maybe a long weekend somewhere within easy driving distance, at least for those in the midwest. J.B., with all your new freedom, hopefully this would be doable for you, too. Any thoughts? We were reminiscing about the Michigan City trip recently...Joe & Mitch's amazing dog rescue, Carrie taking on our "crazy" neighbor, the Coast Guard...you know, the usual kind of occurrences when the Fosters get together. We realize how difficult it would be to get everyone together, but is there even an interest? Maybe this could be the forum for a discussion...ideas?
